"A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure."  – Charlie Chaplin

Our 2018-19 season will open with Chaplin, a groundbreaking full-length World Premiere based on one of the most iconic and creative artists of the twentieth century. In a remarkable collaboration between three diverse choreographers, Kevin Jenkins and Edgar Zendejas will join forces with long time resident choreographer and Co-artistic Director William Soleau to bring to life the immensely complicated but uniquely comedic world of Charlie Chaplin.  Dance combined with multimedia, soundscapes, mime, and a host of other elements, promises to take the audience on a spellbinding, delightful ride into the emotional mind and creative genius that was Chaplin.

WORLD PREMIERE

“You must not seek to add, to what you have, what you once had…..”  – Libretto, The Soldier’s Tale

State Street Ballet and the Santa Barbara Symphony collaborate with the Ensemble Theatre Company for the first time, marking the 100th anniversary of The Soldier’s Tale, Igor Stravinsky’s Faustian parable about a deserting soldier who loses his soul to the devil. Though based on a Russian folk tale, this unique theatrical and dance work is far removed from Russian traditionalism, and instead embraces a broad array of musical styles. Paired with Stravinsky’s landmark ballet The Rite of Spring, a work that changed the course of 20th-century music like no other. Choreography by Co-artistic Director William Soleau!

Nir Kabaretti, Conductor, Santa Barbara Symphony

Jonathan Fox, Executive Director, Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara

Rodney Gustafson and William Soleau, Artistic Directors, State Street Ballet
